High Blood Pressure and You

Did you know that high blood pressure can affect the brain, eyes, heart, and kidneys? If you do not keep your blood pressure under control, you may be more likely to have a heart attack, a stroke, kidney failure, or blindness.

Here are some tips to lower your risk for problems:

  • Learn what your blood pressure level is.
  • Take your high blood pressure medicine if your doctor prescribes it.
  • Limit how much alcohol you drink. Men should not have more than 2 drinks a day. Women should not have more than 1 drink a day.
Ask your doctor how often you should have your blood pressure checked.
