Take Care of Your Teeth and Gums

Photo of a woman wearing sunglassesDid you know that taking care of your teeth and gums may help your heart?

Research has shown a link between gum disease and heart disease. Fortunately, you can keep your mouth healthy by doing these things:

  • Brush your teeth at least 2 times every day. This will remove plaque, which builds up next to gums.
  • Floss once a day.
  • Eat healthy foods, such as fruits and vegetables. Limit sugary snacks and junk foods. Brush after eating whenever you can.
  • Visit your dentist for cleanings and checkups. The dentist can remove plaque, which is harmful for your teeth.
  • Tell your dentist about any health changes or new medicines.
  • Call your dentist if you have any changes in your mouth, such as red, swollen, or bleeding gums or bad breath that does not go away.
