Soothe Breast-Feeding Pain

Photo of a loofaBreast-feeding is natural but not always easy. It takes practice for both moms and babies. Here’s what to do if you feel pain when breast-feeding:

  • Talk with a lactation expert. This is a woman who teaches you about nursing. You can find this expert through your baby’s doctor or your hospital.
  • Nurse the baby more often and change positions when nursing.
  • Use a warm cloth or heating pad on your breasts or take a warm shower.
  • Wear a nursing bra. Be sure to choose one that is comfortable.
  • See your doctor if your pain does not get better. He or she will make sure you do not have an infection.
