Learn About Pre-Diabetes
What is pre-diabetes? It happens
when blood sugar levels are higher
than normal, but not high enough to
cause diabetes. If it is not treated,
pre-diabetes can lead to diabetes
and other health problems.
Are you at risk? It is a good idea
to see your doctor and get your
blood sugar tested if you are age
45 or older. If you are younger than
age 45 ask your doctor about testing.
You may need to be tested if you
are overweight and:
- Do not exercise often
- Are African-American, Asian-American, or Latino
- Have low HDL, or “good”
cholesterol, or high
triglyceride levels
What can you do? Try to lose
some weight. You can do this by
eating healthy and being active for
30 minutes a day on most days of the
week. This may help prevent diabetes.
